Co-Owner of Kootenay Bayou Scotty Hunt alongside his wife Alana have kept the family tradition going since it started up; like in it's name in the British Columbia Kootenay region.

Hunt was working in the oil and gas industry in all parts of the world but with the times of the economy fell victim to being laid off and had to come up with a way to make ends meet and says hot sauce was the answer.

"I've always had a love for hot sauce, it's something I've always looked for it doesn't matter what country I was in to use it as a condiment so that definitely sparked the interest and how well it was doing in the Kootenays," he says. "So we just thought we should keep it going because if we didn't keep going then there would be no more Kootenay Hot Sauce."

Hunt says he took over the hot sauce racket from his father and with his business needing the proper cooking facilities that you wouldn't find in your average home so he turned to the Elks for help.

"They've been very helpful to get our business going, we did need a commericial kitchen due to that we are a commerical business we are family owned and operated small but are a commericial business. So the relationship has been working great we're hoping it would bring more people into the Elks lounge and club as well."

Currently Kootnenay Bayou has three different sauces Roasted Red Hot, Kiwi Tsunami and Roasted Red X and are available at most farmers markets in the Foothills and are looking to expand.

"We focus on flavour over heat, so the sauce has a managable heat so I think everybody can try it and would enjoy it. Right now we don't have the store front, we are at the Okotoks Farmer's Market, we're going to be at all of the Okotoks festivals, we are at the Millarville Farmer's Market and in High River."
