High temperatures have lead to a heat warning being issued for the Foothills.

According to Environment Canada the dome of warm air developed over western Canada and the north western part of the US.

Kirk Torneby, meteorologist with Environment Canada, says the warning is issued by a partnership with Environment Canada, Alberta Health, and Health Canada.

"Our partners developed the criteria which we issue it for, for the southern part of the province we're looking for a maximum temperature above 29 degrees during the day, minimum temperature at night above 14 degrees, then a second day above 29."

Torneby says temperatures should start to come down over the weekend.

"Towards the weekend we'll start to see more unsettled conditions moving across the province which should bring a chance of showers and more seasonable temperatures towards the average for June, which around Okotoks is about 20-22 degrees, and we're going to be running with daytime highs of 31, 32 degrees until Friday. They're not records but they're close to records."
