The cast of crew of the TV series Heartland make time to give back.

The show helps organizations in a variety of ways by partnering with the Children's Make A Wish Foundation and not-for-profit groups by offering set tours and meet and greets with the cast.

Gordon Imlach, series publicist, says it's great knowing they've made a difference.

"It's incredible to do things like this, we always like to think we're more than just a TV show," he says. "When we see how thrilled the people are who come out and watch our shows and we get thank yous from the various associations we give stuff to to enable them to raise money for themselves, it's very rewarding for the cast and crew."

This year the show chose four equine related groups who raffled off tickets, which brought the groups in about $10,000, then the winners visited the set, met the cast and crew, stayed for lunch, and watched filming.

Imlach says he's uncertain about any future initiatives.

"The main difficulty we have at the moment is that we're in October, anything we were to give away to try and squeeze in stuff before we wrap in December would be tough. I can't tell you we're going to have a season 11, the second I know we do then we'll proceed to do more good stuff."

Over the weekend Heartland was honoured with a gala at the Calgary International Film Festival recognizing the series' ten seasons.
