The Okotoks Food Bank is inviting residents to shop for a good cause this weekend.

For the first time, the Okotoks Food Bank has teamed up with dried fruit and nut supplier Rancho Vignola to host a harvest sale.

Rancho Vignola will be selling and sampling a variety of dried fruit, nuts, seeds and confections at the harvest sale.

Okotoks Food Bank Executive Director Sheila Hughes says the food bank will benefit from the partnership in a couple of ways.

"As a food bank, we provide volunteers to help them run the event," Hughes explains. "And for that, we get some funds. So, our volunteer hours are put into funds and that is donated to the food bank. As well, and we are really excited about this part, we get quite a bit of product."

Hughes points out that a donation of healthy protein snack items will help the food bank with their initiative to offer more fresh food for their clients.

"I just hope that the commuity embraces this," Hughes says. "They can come out and have some samples and support not only the food bank, but this great company that's supporting us as well."

She says that the partnership between the Okotoks Food Bank and Rancho Vignola was a natural fit.

"They feed people and we feed people," she says. "We love partnerships like that. We're all about making sure people have good, healthy food."

The harvest sale will be held at the Foothills Centennial Centre on Saturday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
