It's officially the first day of winter in Canada.

Today is the Winter solstice, starting this morning the earth began its tilt back toward the Sun, and we'll see just eight hours of daylight.

The sun will set at approximately 4:31 p.m. this afternoon.

It definitely feels like winter outside, we'll see highs around the -10C mark for the next five days at least.

Meanwhile in the Southern Hemisphere individuals will be treated to the longest day of the year, as Dec. 21 marks their Summer solstice.
