It's Earth Hour tonight and the Town of Okotoks is challenging it's residents to go dark for at least 60 minutes, to celebrate.

In our electronic lead lifestyle, unplugging for 60 minutes can be a real challenge, leaving many scratching their heads on activities to pass their time in the dark.

The Town's website has a list of things residents can do to spend the time like playing board games by candlelight, enjoying a nice late dinner with friends, or you can join the Okotoks Museum for a guided river walk down the Sheep River.

Kathy Coutts is the Museum Specialist, says she will be leading the tour and talking about the rivers history and importance to the community.

"I will be talking about the history of the river, it's importance in industry, for recreation and also as a water source." Coutts adds "The river has played such an important role in our community's history, so what better time then on Earth Hour to go out and explore the Sheep River."

Coutts say this is a free community event, all you have to do is meet them on time.

"It's a free tour, we're only asking people to meet at the museum at 8:30 P.M. We'll try to get it all done within that hour, so back again at the Museum by 9:30." She adds "It is a walking tour, so folks are encouraged to wear comfortable foot wear, and bring a jacket as it cools down at night time."

Coutts says it's an outside, nature friendly event, naturally that means your furry family members are invited as well.
