With a week of hot weather in the forecast and no rain in sight grass fires could start to be a concern in the Foothills.

A fire along the rail line, south of the Aldersyde Petro Can, on July 5th, consumed about  three-quarters of an acre.

Okotoks Deputy Fire Chief Pat MacIsaac says  it could have been a lot worse.

"We responded with two fire trucks and support vehicles and six fire-fighters," said MacIsaac."It was about three-quarters of an acre in the ditch."

He added the wind was a bit of a problem at first.

"The highway crews and the campers helped out first. They had fire extinguishers on it and were working on it when we got  there, so they deserve a lot of the credit."

With a week of hot weather rolling in, and no rain in sight grass fires could be a problem.

"We are keeping a pretty close eye on what the province is saying about fire risk and we are watching it from a local perspective as well."
