The Town of Okotoks rolled out its Universal Recycling Program in October for a three month free trial. The trial is now over and residents are left with two options.

If you like the blue cart program you can stay the course and continue to use it but you will start seeing additional charges to your bill. You have a grace period to return your bin to the Town. From now until Feb. 28 you can return your blue bin only, without any charge and waste services will pick it up.

The Environmental Service Fee for multi-family, commercial, institutional buildings and residents who opt out of the program is $5.25 as of Janurary 1, 2017. This is a $2.00 increase from 2016. If you choose to keep your blue bin your monthly bill will increase by $7.25.

Residents were given the option to try the blue bin program after the Town initially made it necessary for all households to have them, but decided to accommodate those still interested in self hauling their recyclables to the Okotoks Eco Centre.

The number to call to have your blue bin returned is (403) 938-8054.
