The snow and constant freeze-thaw cycle makes for slick sidewalks and driveways.

The Town of Okotoks is helping to combat icy conditions and make travel safer by offering residents free sand.

Free sand can be picked up at the grass and leaves drop off area just outside the Okotoks Recycling Centre.

Both fire stations on Milligan Drive and Woodhaven Drive have free sand available for pick up as well.

Residents are being reminded to bring their own shovel and bucket.

The sand is available as long as it's needed throughout the winter.
