It won't be long before outdoor rinks are up and running in Okotoks.

The unusual warm and dry conditions this month have slightly pushed back their opening but Christa Michailuck, parks manager for the Town, says it's a challenge most years to have them open before Christmas due to the weather.

She says they're making progress and should hopefully have a few open in the near future.

"We should be on target to have some of them up and ready by the end of next week, weather permitting. If not, we hope to have them all ready by the first week of January or so."

Michailuck says the Town lost their ODR at Pason Centennial Arena due to the expansion but they've found an alternate location nearby.

"It's called Hugh's Park, it's actually a sport court with a fence so that'll be perfect for allowing us to get the rink ready. We can close the gates until it's frozen then open them up for people to go in there. That one will be really great to have and that's on Woodgate Road."

Volunteer opportunities are still open to assist with maintenance for the outdoor rinks.
