An above average week for the Okotoks Fire Department in this week's edition of the Fire Report.

Fire Services dealt with 22 different responses which ranged from motor vehicle accidents to the gas line rupture at Foothills Composite High School.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says an accidental rupture lead to the evacuation students and staff at FCHS.

"In the last week we had 11 medical responses we helped out with, we had four motor vehicle accidents, one rescue, four alarm system activations, two gas line ruptures and we had one investigation we completed."

It's been a busy couple of weeks for the fire department as well as they get trained up on how to save lives when it comes to overdoses especially in fentanyl use.

Thevenot says fire service members already use Naxolone kits but now have another specific set of skills.

"Our members are training with the NARCAN drug to help with overdoses in particular ones with fentanyl. Right now we should have 20 fire fighters that have been trained with NARCAN and we'll also be training our community fire fighters."

There were 343 deaths related to opiods in 2016.
