A focus to improve the Foothills School Division communications with the community through the Internet is starting to pay off.

For the past year they have been working to share good news from the schools through social media feeds including Facebook, Twitter and their website.

Superintendent John Bailey says they are very pleased with how it is growing.

"One of the needs we saw as a district was to improve our website presence,"said Bailey "To improve our social media presence, so that has been a focus for us for the last year. For us it is becoming a more valuable tool to communicate to our families and our community."

The Faceboook page has 1,331 people following them and the twitter feed has 1,822 followers.

"There are many, many, many good things that go on everyday. Certainly that is not what makes the six o'clock news so we like to have as many positive stories out there are we can."

He added the schools are using the social media platforms to share information including in the last week info about book fairs, Halloween costume parties and the Pumpkin Smash at Spitzee School.
