The idea to harmonize playground and school zones is being taken to the provincial level.

School board trustees with the Foothills School Division are proposing a new policy to the Alberta School Board Association so speed limits and times would be the same every day, all across Alberta, in each zone.

The policy purposes a speed of 30 kilometres per hour from 7:30 A.M. till one hour after sunset.

Assistant Superintendent of Corporate Services Drew Chipman says it would help so there is no confusion between municipalities.

"It makes a lot of sense," said Chipman. "There's not a lot of difference between a play ground and a school zone."

"Kids are there, playing and having fun and not paying attention to traffic, so traffic needs to pay more attention to them."

The board has been looking into the idea with the Town of High River, who are planning to make the changes in June, but they decided to go one step further and propose it so it becomes a province-wide initiative.
