Schools in the Foothills School Division have a plan in place for those days when the air quality is bad from forest fire smoke.

Assistant Superintendent of Corporate Services Drew Chipman says they are closely monitoring the situation.

"We have already talked to our schools to let them know if they have any students that have breathing issues, whether they are asthmatic, have lung capacity issues or just have issues with breathing, to keep them in," said Chipman.

He adds they are keeping in close touch with Alberta Health Services.

"If they have information they want us to share we are on it immediately. When schools are asking questions we are following up so we feel like we are on top of it."

He added they are paying particular attention to the situation so children who are feeling discomfort are able to stay indoors.

The schools are also keeping in touch with parents to keep them up to date.
