A former Okotoks teacher has been acquitted of child sexual abuse charges in Indonesia.

Neil Bantleman, along with other teaching assistants, were released from prison Thursday night after spending 13 months behind bars after being found guilty in April of sexually abusing three young children.

But there are some legalities that Bantleman has to go through before getting the green light to leave Indonesia. The prosecutors could appeal the High Court's decision, but for now he is spending a few days with his wife.

If Bantleman is able to return to Canada within the next few days, he is expected to go to Calgary first before heading back to Burlington, Ontario where he was living before he went overseas.

Bantleman and his wife were residents in Okotoks for 10 years, where he was a substitute teacher at Good Shepard Elementary School.
