This week marks Anti-Bullying Week in schools nation wide and while it may seem like the message to stop bullying is improving year by year, it's a social issue that can never be put to the side.

Events like Pink T-Shirt Day and positivity notes being posted around schools are a few of the methods being used to spread awareness about bullying in the Foothills School Division.

Shannon Culbert, principal at Red Deer Lake School, says bullying is an on-going issue that can't be swept under the rug.

"What we see far more frequently is kids who are not getting along, whether it's an argument on the soccer field or someone was playing more aggressively," she says. "That's what we deal with more on a day to day basis."

Culbert says cyber-bullying is one form of bullying that FSD emphasizes on preventing.

"We're doing lots of education around reminders of how to be smart when you're using social media and technology... this week in school we're focusing more on that positivity."

Culbert says she thinks kids are feeling more empowered to stand up for their friends when they see an act of bullying taking place which, she says is heart warming and reminds people there is good in the world.
