Another chapter closes for the Foothills School Division as the school year comes to an end.

Over the past year the division saw many highlights including the plans for modernization of Foothills Composite High School/Alberta High School of Fine Arts and the announcement of the Wedderburn land north on 32 Street in Okotoks being used for the new K-9 school.

John Bailey, superintendent of FSD, says the division is already looking forward to their next moves.

"Our plans in the upcoming school year will involve a consultation for the new school on 32 Street with our community," he says. "That will likely get rolling in the winter. It's an exciting time, it's a lot of work as well, but it's good for kids as we move forward and get new and better learning spaces and increased learning spaces as our population continues to grow."

According to Bailey, the timeline of the project is still on track with an opening set for September 2018.

He says the division's enrollment was over their projection from a year ago but that won't be the case for this upcoming school year.

"Looking forward to next year we're actually predicting fairly flat enrollment. I think we're down about seven students across the division, but it's so hard to guess and it really is a guess at this point in time especially with the economy the way it is. It's really hard for us to estimate students."

June 29 is the official last day of school for students in FSD.
