The Foothills Country Hospice is celebrating a new initiative.

May 5 marks the first day of the global #GivingTuesdayNow initiative which encourages people to show their support for non-profits during the COVID-19 pandemic. This can done be through acts of kindness, sharing a skill, volunteering time, or making financial contributions,

At the Foothills Country Hospice, the day can be celebrated through their #SpreadTheLove campaign by making signs and posting them on the fence line at the hospice for all to see, and sharing stories and words of encouragement to social media tagging the hospice and using the hashtags #SpreadTheLove and #GivingTuesdayNow.

Stephanie Barnes, Development and Communications Officer at the hospice, says it's a great way to bring people together while physically staying apart.

"Some people are by themselves, some people feel a sense of loss in terms of connection to others, so this is just an opportunity for everybody to come together virtually and through the signs and just all support a common good."

Barnes adds it's been great to see the love shown for the facility.

"Normally our hospice is hustling and bustling with volunteers, playing music, coming in and out of the patient rooms visiting with them, and unfortunately right now volunteers aren't actually allowed on site due to the COVID-19 outbreak," she explains. "So, this is something special to do for our residents so they know that we're still thinking of them and we wish we could be there to support them, but we're going to do what we can with those social distancing restrictions in place."
