The past few days Foothills residents have shown a significant amount of support for Heaven Can Wait animal shelter.

On Wednesday owner Kim Hessel posted on Facebook stating how there was only enough funds to keep the shelter running for about another month.

Since the post, a Go Fund Me campaign was started which started out with a goal of reaching $30,000. That goal was surpassed about 24 hours later and has since been bumped up to $100,000 thanks to generous donations from the community.

The money raised will be used to help pay vet bills as well as feed, house and properly care for the animals that are taken in until they find their forever homes.

Fundraisers have been started by others to help support the rescue, including local photographer Monique Esposito who's started an online auction. The auction is set to run Oct. 21-23 through her Facebook page. More information can be found by clicking here.

The Okotoks Oilers are doing their part as well by accepting pet supply donations at their games this weekend against the Whitecourt Wolverines on Saturday night and the Calgary Canucks on Sunday. Game time for Saturday is 7:00 p.m. and Sunday's game goes at 4:15 p.m. with both taking place at Pason Centennial Arena.
