A foot chase on a slippery Highway 2 resulted in four people being arrested on Wednesday, April 4th.

It all started in Nanton after an eye witness called police to report a theft of used batteries from a local automotive shop.

The witness was able to provide police with a description as well as a direction of travel.

RCMP located the vehicle on Highway 2 near High River and after attempting to pull the vehicle over, it hit the ditch due to icy conditions.

Witnesses on social media said traffic came to a stop as police chased down two suspects who were trying to gain access to passing cars before being arrested.

High River RCMP assisted in arresting the four people involved and the vehicle was reported stolen from Calgary.

Other property believed to be stolen was also recovered in the vehicle.

"Thanks to an observant witness and a bit of help from icy roads, we were able to stop a few more thieves,” says Corporal Travis Ogilvie, Nanton RCMP detachment commander. “Those calls from the public to report suspicious activity or crimes in progress are always appreciated.”

Charges are pending against two men and two women for property related offences.
