The Okotoks fire Department had their hands full this past week helping motorists out of their cars as they responded to quite a few calls last week. Most of them motor vehicle collisions.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says over half of the calls were vehicle related.

"We had 19 responses, we had a number of MVC', we had 10," he says. "Six public service medical responses, we had three alarm system activations. That last week motor vehicle collisions were our number one incidents to report."

Luckily Thevenot says the accidents the department responded to were not too serious.

"Most of them were smaller in nature but with the icy conditions, the motor vehicle collisions seem to unfortunately accumulate more."

As we reach the end of 2015 Thevenot reports that calls will most likely be up from 2014.

"As of December 20th we were at 1033 responses, last year we were at 980 so it's up 53 calls from last year at this time."

Thevenot says the Fire Department will be busy escorting Jolly Old St. Nick himself during their annual Christmas Eve parade and all the boys and girls can head to the Town of Okotoks' website to find out when he'll be passing by their home during the parade at 5 p.m. on the 24th.
