No slowing down for the Okotoks Fire Department.

This past week they were busy responding to 27 calls.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says there's a variety of incidents that make up that number.

"Responses include assisting a rescue with an outside agency, another rescue, three motor vehicle collisions, 13 medical responses, two public service responses, three alarm system activations, two other alarm system activations with no fire indicated on them, one incident that wasn't classified, and we went to a call where nothing was found at the time."

He's reminding home owners to keep safety top of mind as they break out their lawn equipment.

"Make sure you're wearing proper protection and make sure you check over your mechanical equipment, your grass trimmers and lawn mowers," says Thevenot. "Make sure you're checking all the bolts, screws, and handles so everything is tight, they seem to come loose from time to time and you never know you could be pushing your lawn mower and the handle could come loose... try to avoid some accidents."

Thevenot adds taking a little extra time to do yard work can help prevent injuries.
