Okotoks residents have been doing a great job at complying with the Town's fire advisory.

This is according to Ken Thevenot, Okotoks fire chief, who says there's been no complaints about backyard fire pits this past week since the advisory was implemented.

He says the advisory is in place due to the weather and also out of respect of water conservation in case of emergencies.

"The advisory is in place right now just because of the dry conditions and also because of our water levels for watering and such and for fire protection, for our levels in our reservoirs, we're keeping an eye on those as well to make sure that we stay in a safe range."

Thevenot explains they watch water levels everyday.

"We work closely with EPCOR and we monitor them now everyday. In the summer when the weather gets really dry and the water levels start to deplete in the Sheep River we want to ensure that people are aware of the conservation efforts in place to make sure they water on their scheduled watering days."

Thevenot adds the fire advisory will remain in place to help keep awareness high until conditions improve.
