The Okotoks Fire Department dealt with an above average week of calls in this edition of the Fire Report.

Fire Services were called out to 22 different situations including a pair of fire calls.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says one occured at the Sheep River Campground last week.

"Seven motor vehicle accidents, we had six medical responses, five alarm system activations, two fires with one being an RV fire and one was an out building fire. We had one odour investigation and we also went out on a call and there was no incident found," he says.

With the warm weather making outdoor activities that much better for Okotokians, Thevenot wants to remind everyone to continue to stay off of storm retention ponds and the Sheep River.

"Stay off those ice surfaces on those storm ponds, there's other ice surfaces to use and right now at this time of year the ice is starting to melt because of this weather so it can be dangerous for us."

Another hazard that residents may be overwhelmed with is electrical cords that could be plugged in to outside outlets and the other end might be a little damp from the recent snow melt.

Thevenot says it's best to keep cords dry.

"The water can run down and some people may have their electrical cords still out from the cold snaps. Maybe you want to wrap them up and put them away if they're still plugged in because potentially the other end of the cord could go into some snow that has been melted now and into the water."
