The Okotoks Food Bank will be out in the community over the next six weeks hoping to see their shelves stay on the full side.

In partnership with The Eagle 100.9 and their Feeding The Foothills initative, every Thursday members of the Food Bank, Century 21, Carstar in Okotoks and High River and Tristar Communities will be handing out lists of what is needed to help those less fortunate get through what is usually a lull in donations through the summer months.

Executive Director Sheila Hughes says they aren't asking substantial amounts of food or money donations from anyone in the stores.

"What we're hoping to see, we're not looking for massive donations from everybody that walks through," she says. "Even one item helps us a lot get through a very difficult summer.

The food bank has seen over a 47% increase in hampers given out from this time last year to currently in 2016.

Hughes says anything helps to keep hampers in good supply.

"In any year our summer donations are way down, this is typical across Canada so anything that people can do in the community and our community is always very supportive to help us that would be fantastic."

The food bank is seeing around an average of 322 visits per month in 2016 from those having trouble making ends meet.
