A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Foothills.

Late Wednesday morning Environment Canada issued the statement saying conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon along the foothills and move east over the course of the day and into the evening and will likely expand eastward.

The main threats with these thunderstorms will be hail to the size of loonies, damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h, and rainfall in excess of 50 mm.

The thunderstorms have potential to be severe with loonie sized hail, damaging wind gusts over 90 km/h and rainfall in excess of 50 millimeters.

  • M.D. of Foothills near High River and Aldersyde
  • M.D. of Foothills near Longview and Eden Valley Res.
  • M.D. of Foothills near Okotoks and De Winton
  • M.D. of Foothills near Priddis and Brown-Lowery Prov. Park
  • M.D. of Foothills near Turner Valley and Black Diamond
  • M.D. of Willow Creek near Claresholm and Stavely
  • M.D. of Willow Creek near Nanton and Parkland
  • Rocky View Co. near Bragg Creek and Tsuu T'ina Res.
