The Okotoks Art Gallery is giving the public the chance to have a look at what's happening in a part of the country that is always under scrutiny.

Back In The Eastside by Jeff Wilson will be at the gallery from now until April 1, 2017.

Culture & Heritage Manager for the Town of Okotoks Allan Boss says Wilson's work really brings the Eastside of Vancouver on a different level.

"Jeff Wilson is a Vancouver artist who actually lives in Vancouver's notorious downtown eastside," he says. "His exhibit is bright, colourful and large."

Boss says the works shows off the beauty that the eastside can bring in Vancouver.

"He looks at the street scapes and the Edwardian architecture that exists on the downtown eastside. He examines the first responders and policing and drug & health policies with things that are happening in that community."

Along with the Simply Put: Vernacular Alberta display by George Webber, Boss says the showcases complement
each other nicely.

"Both examine places that have kind of been left to their own and it's great to come into the gallery and spend some time looking at these exhibits and enjoy them."

The Art Gallery is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
