Early voting for the Okotoks municipal election gets underway Friday, Oct. 8.

Substitute returning officer Patty Huber says all the ingredients are there for a busy election.

"This particular year with the mayor race, 24 candidates running for council and only one of them being a current council member, that is all criteria that often gets our community a little more engaged than usual and brings people out to vote."

Because of that, they're preparing to accommodate the expected influx.

"We have scheduled six advanced votes, which is three more than we have typically done in the past. We want to provide lots of opportunity with lots of social distancing for our residents to come out and vote."

Locals looking to vote in advance can do so at the Okotoks Recreation Centre on the following days.

Friday, Oct. 8: 5-8 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 9: 12-6 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 11: 12-6 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 13: 5-8 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 14: 12-6 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 15: 12-6 p.m.

Proof-of-vaccination will not be required for entry.

Residents are asked to wear a face mask and use hand sanitizer, both of which will be available on-site.
