The Town of Okotoks and Municipal Enforcement would like to remind residents of upcoming dog licence renewals for 2019.

Kelly Stienwand, Municipal Enforcement Manager for the Town of Okotoks, says there are a high numbers of dogs in Okotoks that are not currently registered.

"One of the problems that we've encountered this year, is that we have somewhere between four and five-hundred pet owners who have not registered their dog in 2018, and are actually in arrears," he said.

He adds that if residents have left the area or moved with their pet, it is a good rule of practice to call the town and inform them so their records are kept current.

Stienwand says while supporting community programs, licensing your dog makes for a much quicker return if they are ever lost.

"Having your dog licensed in our community is very important. One of the things we see in our office, is dogs that find themselves in our office, we can check their licence, and reunite them with their family quickly. So, we really encourage this program, and it works great for responsible pet owners," he said.

The registration fee of $25 per year is a much better deal than the possible $100 fine that can come from having an unregistered dog.
