In just a few weeks Okotokians will get a sneak peek at the Dewdney Players' One Act Plays.

They'll be putting on two weekends of three one act plays, which are going to the Foothills Region One Act Play Festival.

Nicola Payton, President of Dewdney Players says there's plenty to see at the #Seriously? An Evening of One Act Plays event.

"One of them is called Alien Boy which is a coming out, and coming of age story of a 13-year-old boy recounted by his adult self," she says. "Then there's You Never Say The Scottish Play, which is a ten minute comedy, it's a show poking fun at the superstitions of actors never saying the name of the Scottish Play."

The third one act play is called A Thespian Fantasy, which is set up is a TV station hosting a debate on living in a town that supports arts and culture to the detriment, and almost total exclusion of physical recreation and sports.

"The playwright took a 'how would you like it?' attitude to the imbalance by showing what a community might look like if the imbalance was reversed, it's an interesting play, it's also lighthearted."

The One Act shows run in Okotoks from March 8-10, and 15-17 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre.

The plays will then run at the One Act Play Festival and competition in High River from March 22-24.

Payton adds the shows are not recommended for children.

"The thing with our one acts is the actors get to develop new styles and different things, so we push ourselves. It can be a little bit more edgy than a regular Dewdney show."
