A family from Okotoks is being recognized for their contributions to the Dewdney Players Group Theatre.

The Fea family was one of eight recipients of the 2018 CAT Volunteer Awards.

The CAT awards are presented by Calgary-ACTS (the Alliance of Community Theatres), with this year marking the 16th annual presentation.

"I've been involved in theatre a lot of years," said Dale Fea, a member of the honoured family.

When the Feas moved to Okotoks they quickly met Town Councillor Ed Sands and his wife Debbie. When the Sands discovered Fea's background in theatre, she was quickly recruited to help out the Dewdney Players.

In the years since, Fea has done a little of everything for the community theatre group, from directing to set production.

Fea says that being welcomed to Okotoks so quickly by the Dewdney Players helped her family integrate into the community.

"It's a wonderful community," said Fea. "That's a large part of being part of any arts activity, is you're part of a community, and you make friends.

"We were pretty new to Okotoks, and a lot of the people in Dewdney have become close friends. It gives you an interesting purpose."

The Dewdney Players were up for six CAT awards this year, and though they didn't take home any other hardware, they did perform a scene from their production of Macbeth.
