A developer has pulled an application for affordable housing in High River.

Sitefinders approached the Town in July about building a 20-unit affordable housing project called the Grain Elevator on a piece of land near the Coal Trail Plaza along Centre Street.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says council wasn't comfortable with the contribution it was asked to make.

"The Town already has their affordable housing investments in High River and we've worked a lot with Westwinds Communities and we're just not seeing enough of a demand that would warrant any level of financial contribution from the taxpayers of High River."

The developer had asked to have property taxes waived for ten years which would have amounted to $216,000.

Mayor Snodgrass says council's always been opposed to providing any kind of financial contribution to help out a developer, believing it's the developer's job to come up with the proper financing.
