There's still a few days for Okotoks residents to apply to be on municipal committees and boards.

The groups allow residents to have a say on the decisions Okotoks will face in the future.

Okotoks mayor Bill Robertson says it's good to have grassroots people get involved.

"Some of the committees are advisory only and there are a number that actually make decisions that cannot be overturned by council, such as the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, so there are a number of these boards and commissions that are standalone and function on their own, and there are a number of others that advise council."

Some boards and committees meet twice a month and others meet only as required. Terms generally last from one to three years with youth positions lasting the length of one school year.

Robertson says there's a new group for those interested in business and economic development.

"One of the new committees we have for this year is the Brand Leadership Ad-Hoc Committee. This committee is likely to operate for the next year, perhaps two years with an extension, but it's going to look at the new initiatives coming out of Roger Brooks with brand leadership. Some of the things regarding 'join the innovation' and so on, the new tag line for Okotoks? How can we implement those throughout the town?"

The deadline to apply for a committee or board is Sunday.
