More than 650 people got a jump start on Thanksgiving this past weekend at the annual Davisburg turkey supper.

Guests were treated to a full Thanksgiving menu of locally-produced turkey, with all the trimmings, and pie for dessert.

Diana Froc, who co-chaired the event with Lynore Park, says the 8th annual event raised close to $20,000.

She adds that proceeds from the event will be put towards projects that will benefit the community of Davisburg.

"The funds that we raised this year will be directed towards supporting the Sodbuster sports program, which will include both the programming side and the facility side," Froc explains. "And we're also accumulating a fund to renovate our bathrooms in the hall, so we can make them more accessible for people."

Close to 100 volunteers, including those who made and baked 200 pies and those who peeled 270 pounds of white potatoes and 240 pounds of sweet potatoes, helped out to make this year's event a success.

Froc adds that the event benefits the community in ways that extend beyond the funds raised.

"It's a fundraiser, which is really important for our community," she says. "But it's also a reason to be together as a community. Through volunteering and attending the event, we have this great feel of community and that part is heartwarming for everybody involved."
