The Christ the Redeemer Davisburg school has a name!

St. Francis of Assisi is what the K-7 school north on highway 522 will be called.

Scott Morrison, superintendent of CTR, says this is the name the board selected with the input of stake holders.

"We invited nomination of names online and through our emails out to parents, and than we invited our stake holders to come and bring that list of names down from 9 to 3 names and the board decided from there." Morrison says.

The three names that the board had to choose from were St. Francis of Assisi Academy, Father Lacombe and St. Catherine's.

Morrison says that St. Francis of Assisi was by far the most popular.

"He is one of the patron saints of the environment and animals, and giving that the school is in a rural setting and the people in that area value the environment and nature it is a perfect fit."

Morrison says that another reason is that Pope Francis who is the current pope choose this to be his name as popes choose their own names.

"St. Francis was known as a St. that dedicated his life to service of the poor and kids today are really aware of political justice issues and servicing of the poor." Morrison says.
