An extreme sport took it to another level at Kinsmen Park Saturday.

With the heavy rain fall pounding, riders from all-over Western Canada took part in this year's cyclo-cross event, the sport goes rain or shine so there was no love lost on the track.

The event raised over $4000.00 for Kidsport Okotoks and Cyclocross enthusiast Jason Reid says it was a great success for the sport and the charity.

"We do have a great community but there are kids that are in need of donations and money so they can play sports," he says. "That's kind of one of the reasons we did it, and the other one was to look at activity in our community, and I have a passion for Cycle-cross and I was able to bring that to here and we have 15 local people racing today so that's kind of cool."

Reid says it was a great turn-out seeing racers from all parts of the country compete.

"We had 190 racers and probably all of the top racers in Alberta," he says. "As well as we have some from B.C. and Saskatchewan so there's a real western feel to the event."

Reid hopes that next year's event will raise more money for Kidsport and see even more racers come out, and it wouldn't hurt if they get a drier event next year.
