International events led to a school division north of the Foothills to cancel all overseas field trips until the end of May.

Unlike Edmonton Catholic Schools, superintendent of Christ The Redeemer School Division Scott Morrison says currently they haven't cancelled any trips, but will be rerouting ones originally set for France.

Originally two trips had France set as their destinations which are being rerouted, while the European and Central American trips will move ahead as planned.

Morrison says student safety is their priority.

"We had a pretty overwhelming concensus that our travellers wanted to proceed with their trips so the board took that as one source of information in helping them make decisions," he says. "The other thing is just directing administration and directing my team that we have all the safety precautions in place so that we make our trips as safe as possible."

He says they take numerous safety measures aside from looking closely at Canadian Foreign Affairs travel advisories and working with an accredited company.

"We're going to look at all our routes, work with EF Tours who's our tour provider and basically make sure we're going to spots that are lower risk whenever possible," he says. "If there's a protest or demonstrations we stay away from that, we don't use public transit ever we only use charter buses."

Morrison adds between now and the spring they'll work with their trip leaders to prepare for heightened levels of security.
