A proposed rural Crimewatch Association Network is expanding.

A meeting was held in Blackie in February which garnered a good deal of interest and now an information meeting is being planned for the areas south and east of High River.

Constable Stacey Campbell says it's a fan-out system to make residents in the rural area aware of what's going on.

"The fan-out can be all sorts of things, it can be by text message, it can be by e-mail, it can be by phone and there's a lot of communities around Alberta that have rural Crimewatch," she says. "It's just to keep people aware of what's going on in their area and if the police have things they want people to be on the lookout for it's something that can be fanned out of if people notice suspicious vehicles in the area it can be fanned out for that as well."

Cst. Campbell says the meeting in Blackie had about 65 people in attendance and they were able to gather contact information for them.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday March 31 at the Cayley Oddfellows Hall at 7 p.m., and if someone missed last month's meeting they're more than welcome to attend.

Cst. Campbell says if anyone has any questions she can be reached at the High River RCMP detachment and if she's out, just leave a message and she will get back to them as soon as she can.
