The Town of Okotoks is hoping the royals will consider a previous marketing campaign when they make their move to Canada later this year.

The Town's former tourism slogan, "there are a number of things to do in Okotoks," was mentioned in a recent Maclean's magazine article as a joking example of a pitch to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

While the article was in jest, Mayor Bill Robertson hopes Harry and Meghan will consider the Foothills as their landing spot.

"The royals being a relatively young family, I think they'd fit right in," Robertson said. "They could go to Dawgs game. Archie could play in the Okotoks Minor Hockey league or soccer. When other royals come to visit they could go to the Field House to play pickleball with the other seniors."

When asked how he would pitch the royals on the possibility of moving to Okotoks, Robertson says he'd make sure they know how strong the quality of life is here.

"I'd first of all talk about meeting the people of Okotoks, the friendliest people on the planet earth absolutely."

The "there are a number of things to do in Okotoks" slogan has made rounds virally several times over the past few years, often poking fun at the Town. Mayor Robertson says the Town's economic development department believes the $6,000 campaign has produced over $1 million in advertising value as a result of its internet fame.

"We get all kinds of positive mileage over that ad campaign," he said. "It was a bit of a spoof on the town in a sense. But it's worked out very well."

While the slogan itself made light of the town, Mayor Robertson is sincere in his belief the royals would be happy if they chose to make our home their town.

"It's quality of life here, and we have an abundance of quality of life in Okotoks."
