Temperatures in Okotoks have been well above average this September, but that's about to change, at least for the short term.

Starting today percipitation and cooler temperatures are currently expected to continue through Saturday.

Dan Kulak, Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says we can expect a good amount of rain.

"Okotoks area right now is expecting rain for later on this week, the amounts are still somewhat uncertain with this being in the future," he says. "But some of the computer indications we have right now, the computer models are suggesting between 20 mm and 40 mm is possible in some areas."

Kulak, like many of us, is hoping the rain will effect the wildfires in the province right now.

"I think any precipitation is better than none when it comes to the fire situation, hopefully we can get enough in the next few days that it will actually make a difference."

He adds temperatures in Okotoks are not expected to drop below zero, but they will get very close.

"The forecast we have for Sunday morning says a low of plus two degrees, so that's getting close to that zero mark which is certainly a big change from the heat we've had for the past few months here. Be prepared for the heat to go away, and some much cooler and wet weather later on in the week, remaining cooler for the weekend."

If rain and cooler temperatures aren't enough good news, Kulak shares we shouldn't see the white stuff anytime soon.

"No snow in the forecast yet!"
