The Federal Conservatives had no problems winning the by-election in Medicine Hat Monday, October 25, outpacing his Liberal opponent by a margin of three votes to one.

Glen Motz, a retired Medicine Hat Police Officer is the new MP in the riding.

Foothills MP John Barlow says after winning his own by-election here back in 2014, he knows what it's like to be the new kid on the block.

"I certainly relate to coming in in a by-election, it's a lot of hard work. We'll make sure that Glen fits in. I've had a chance to meet with Glen and speak with him a few times. He's going to be a really strong Member of Parliament. We're really looking forward to having him as part of the team."

Barlow says a visit to the riding by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the campaign, backfired for the Liberals who were hoping to capitalize on his popularity outside of Alberta.

He says it instead galvanized Conservative support behind Motz.
