It looks like we won't get a sunny start to the long weekend.

Kyle Fougere, Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says we're due for some rain in the coming days.

"Unfortunately, a low pressure system is going to go through Alberta tomorrow, with a cold front sweeping through the area around lunch time. We do expect there to be rain in the area for tomorrow afternoon and evening, with a chance of showers overnight, and there might even be a bit of snow mixed in with the rain overnight into Saturday morning."

Saturday is looking somewhat grim, predicted to be cloudy with a high of 9. From there, Fougere says it'll only get warmer.

"After this cold front goes through, we do have a ridge of high pressure that builds in on Sunday, that looks like it'll stick around for the start of next week. The temperatures will be above normal; at this time a year, a normal daytime high would be a high of plus +11, with an overnight low -2. It's looking like Sunday/Monday, temperatures will be around 14 to even a high if 19 degrees on Monday, with mostly sunny conditions expected."

He says we've been pretty lucky thus far.

"It's been a pretty warm and dry spring so far. There hasn't been a lot of precipitation in most of Southern Alberta. So far in the Okotoks area they've only recorded 2.8 millimetres of rain for this month, and in April we tend to average 27 millimetres, so we're quite a bit below average and that was the same story for March, so some people will certainly be looking forward to the rain tomorrow."

A bit of a dreary start to the long weekend, though the rain will surely come as a welcome change to many.
