The cold snap over the Holidays killed a lot of batteries on vehicles around town.

And with the mercury expected to dip into the -20's again this week, there could be more to follow.

However, Scott Mueller with Fountain Tire in High River says don't just slap the jumper cables on.

He says if the battery is frozen, it could be deadly.

"You risk explosion. Check the casing make sure it's not cracked or swollen, before you hook up the booster pack, because that can definitely cause you some harm, and nobody wants that."

Mueller says make sure you check your connections from time to time and clear away any corrosion, which will extend the life of your battery.
