All the charges against Okotoks area landowner Eddie Maurice have been withdrawn.

He was facing charges of aggravated assault, careless use of a firearm and pointing a firearm, but the Crown, saying there was no likelihood of conviction withdrew them.

Maurice says he's glad it's over.

"It's been quite a tough four months to go through this. It's been a lot of stress, anxiety. With the support that's come out it's really helped. You know, everyone showing up on our court appearances. It's really kept our head above water."

Chief Crown Prosecutor James Sawa says the ballistics report they were waiting for was crucial in their decision.

"We'd received information from a firearms expert and that information was compelling to say the least, and it had a direct impact on the decision today to withdraw the charges."

Chief Crown Prosecutor James Sawa says a ballistic report as key in his decision to withdraw charges against Maurice.

Sawa couldn't elaborate on what's in the report, as the two suspected thieves, Ryan Watson and Stephanie Ann Martens, are still facing charges, however Maurice's Lawyer Tonii Roulston says things came to a head back on Saturday, February 24, when Maurice confronted the pair.

"He told them to leave. They refused to leave. He fired a warning shot away from them. And apparently one of the intruders got injured."

Watson was arrested the next day when he showed up at hospital looking for treatment of a gunshot wound.

For his part Eddie Maurice and his wife Jessica say they're happy it's all over and look forward to resuming their lives.
