Some good news on the status of Air Ranch Airport in Okotoks.

After being shutdown almost a year ago due to not being compliant with Transport Canada Regulations, you will soon see take off from CFX2.

New Airport Manager Trent Obrigewitsch says there has been plenty of work done on the airport over the past four to five months to get it to the state its in.

"An operating structure had to be put in place to satisfy the requirements of the regulator," he says. "Through that process there's a series of things that need to be done that need a requirement for the re-opening on the deviation."

At least 20 different pieces of aircraft called Air Ranch their home during the closure and were forced to take off from other airports like High River.

Obridgewitsch says everyone is excited to get their wheel up back home.

"It's been really well received in making sure they have the access to an air facility for the operation of their own aircraft so they're looking forward to getting it re-opened and so are we."

While the airport will still be under its private leadership for the time being, there is still a push from Air Ranch members to see the Town of Okotoks take a roll in operations.

"There's some things that will need to be done as we move forward with the opening that will go towards hopefully having a more inclusive environment for the Town of Okotoks . But first things first is to meet the requirements of the regulator and get the airport open."

The official re-opening of CFX2 is April 30, 2017.
