The province's Chief Medical Officer of Health says the toxic opioid carfentanil has been linked to 15 overdose deaths.

Dr. Karen Grimsrud is notifying the public carfentanil is still circulating in Alberta.

Fourteen of those 15 deaths occurred between September and the end of November.

Dr. Grimsrud says Albertans need to know that carfentanil is in Alberta cities and towns and that it's an extremely dangerous and deadly opioid.

She says even the smallest trace can be lethal.
