A local hairstylist has been the victim of a disturbing vandalism incident.

Misty Wind Shingoose's Care Cuts bus was vandalized on Friday night outside of her Deer Ridge home in Calgary and a threatening note was also left on her lawn.

This comes a little more than a week after the Care Cuts bus was towed by the Calgary Parking Authority while Shingoose was on vacation.

The Calgary Parking Authority soon returned the bus free-of-charge after an appeal was submitted by Shingoose. She believes this must have upset whoever filed the initial complaint.

"Obviously that really, really upset whoever had called on it," she explains. "After the bus was returned, I woke up in the morning to it being spray-painted and vandalized, and a very threatening and disturbing letter written on a bed sheet laying across my lawn."

The note left on Shingoose's lawn accused her of lying about the purpose of the bus, along with threats of a violent sexual assault, and racially-charged messaging.

Shingoose says Calgary Police are investigating the incident, which is now considered a hate crime.

"I called the police on Saturday afternoon when I got home from work, and they started investigating. They said they were sending it to the graffiti unit and the hate crimes unit because there was some racially-charged hate within the letter."

Shingoose plans to cover the graffiti herself, but has reached out to a few local businesses to see if they can lend a hand with decals and paint.

The bus has now been towed to a heated garage to finish the work needed to complete the mobile hair salon.

She shares the work will be ongoing after the first Christmas Care Cuts event this year.

"We're going to be be doing events every single weekend, we're planning on doing Care Cuts wherever there is need and not just downtown. The website will be developed to have an application style form on it where everybody can go to and suggest a Care Cuts event to where you feel is need; whether it be a hospital, an assisted living home, a treatment centre, or an emergency shelter."

Shingoose has set up a GoFundMe Page to assist with expenses.
