High River Town Council is going to look at changing the Land Use bylaw to allow cannabis facilities, after a request was made to put one in the hanger at the old airport on 498 Avenue.

Deputy Mayor Jamie Kinghorn says his concern was the vague description of the plan for the building but says it'll be used as kind of a grow operation.

There are some questions around other aspects of the business like security and what types of cannabis would be grown there.

Kinghorn says council will hold a public hearing Monday, July 13 to gather feedback on the proposal.

"We're going to be set up online, where people can watch online, we were using Microsoft Teams, but it's limited in the number of participant whereas Zoom seems to be unlimited and they seem to have cleaned up the security issues," he says.

Anyone interested in taking part in the public hearing will be able to contact the town to get the pass code prior to it starting.
