Through the 2017 Municipal Election season The Eagle 100.9 and Okotoks Online will be bringing you profiles of candidates to help you make an informed decision.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

"I've been a resident of Okotoks for 20 years, we moved here when our children were young so they started school here. We have three children, they're all grown adults now, two of still live in Okotoks. I was always involved in the community, first at the school level on school council, and then with the town. I was on the Municipal Planning Commission as a Citizen Vice Chair and Chair at a time when Okotoks experienced exponential growth. I was also a member of the Culture, Parks, and Recreation Committee, and the ADHOC Transportation Committee, so I've been very involved with the community in different capacities."

What is the main part of your platform?:

"I would have three key priorities, water, growth and affordable housing. I've been an advocate of the Calgary/Okotoks pipeline since the 2010 election, I ran at that time. If I am elected this time I would continue to lobby the Federal and Provincial government for the funding to receive the same deal other surrounding communities around Calgary received, they got their projects covered about 90% by the government. With water we will grow, the town has just competed the annexation of 4600 acres, and this land needs to be managed taking into consideration the social, economic and environmental standards that the town has established to date. Affordable housing is something Okotoks lacks, it lacks it for seniors, low income families, single parent families and young couples starting out. As new land is developed we need to provide diverse forms of housing so we can encompass all, with this diverse form of housing we'll bring a diverse population."

Why do you believe you'd make a good councillor?:

"I believe my background sets me apart in that my experience and knowledge with architecture, community and regional planning, my involvement with the town, and my knowledge of the protocol at the town level would make me a choice candidate. I've been advocating for a water pipeline and managed growth since 2010, these were issues then and they still remain our two top issues. I believe I can make a difference, I just need the support of the residents."

The Municipal Election goes Monday, Oct. 16.
