Okotoks RCMP were hard at work over the May Long Weekend.

Overall RCMP responded to 10 collision calls, five impaired driving calls, and 12 traffic calls from Friday to Monday.

Okotoks RCMP Sgt. Sukh Randhawa says the 2017 May Long calls are down from 2016.

"Before the May Long Weekend we put out a media release for the public to be careful about the May Long Weekend, being careful about traffic and encouraging following the rules of the road," he says. "Based on the stats the impaired driving and calls for service were down, apparently our message was getting through to the public in terms of being safe, leaving extra time, and being respectful to others on the road."

He shares the number of calls does not include violations members caught when out on patrol.

"The RCMP were out working and patrolling the area, not only in Okotoks but in rural areas. The watch was cognisant of the fact that the weather was going to be nice over the weekend, so they made extra patrols in the community and neighbourhood areas."

There were no fatalities from collisions in the Okotoks area over the weekend.
